Agadir lost its old medina in the 1960 earthquake, and this one is the answer to that: a walled town built from nothing by the Italian architect Coco Polizzi, using the stone, plaster and joinery methods that went with it. It is not a film set. The ramparts are real masonry, the lanes stay cool at midday, and the studios inside belong to potters, weavers and woodcarvers who work there rather than perform there. It sits a short drive south of the hotel strip, and an unhurried half day covers all of it.
