Season by season, from people who drive these roads all year: how Agadir's weather, crowds and prices move between January and December, and which window suits your trip.
There is no closed season in Agadir. The real choice is what you want the sun to arrive with. Warm, dry and unhurried? Aim for April to June or September to October, when the days sit in the low-to-mid 20s and the beach, the souk and the mountain roads are all comfortable in the same week. Happy with heat and holiday noise? That is July and August. Chasing winter sun, or waves, on a quiet coast? December to February is the calmest stretch of a city that averages something like 300 sunny days a year.
The best months to visit Agadir
Two windows carry most of the year. From April to June, and again from September to October, daytime temperatures hold in the low-to-mid 20s°C, rain is close to a rumour, and the Atlantic keeps the air moving even when the sun is strong. That matters most on the days you leave the city: Paradise Valley, Taroudant and Essaouira all involve hours on your feet, and hours on your feet are a very different proposition at 24°C than at 35°C. Back in town, the same months let you walk the beach promenade, the Marina and the hilltop Kasbah without either the midsummer heat or the holiday-season queues.
None of which makes the other months a mistake. Winters here are mild by Moroccan standards and the sunshine is unusually dependable, so the question is not which month is good. It is which trade-off you would rather make: heat against crowds, crowds against price, price against sea temperature. A surfer, a family tied to school holidays and a couple looking for an empty beach in February will each land on a different month, and all three will be right.
Agadir weather, month by month
Rain is usually the first worry and the smallest one. What little falls comes between November and February, and it tends to arrive as a half-hour shower rather than a lost day. Heat is the second worry, and the ocean absorbs most of it: sitting on the Atlantic, Agadir never gets the still, baking afternoons you feel inland in Marrakech. Winter, meanwhile, behaves less like winter and more like a soft early spring: bright, mild, and short on the cold snaps that catch people out further north.
- January and February. Winter sun at its calmest. Around 20–21°C in the middle of the day, cooler once the light goes, and the best value on the calendar.
- March and April. The land greens up after whatever winter rain arrived, temperatures climb, and walking becomes a pleasure again. Prime excursion weather.
- May and June. Dry, warm and dependable. If you want one set of dates that serves the beach and the sightseeing equally well, this is it.
- July and August. The peak of the heat and the peak of the crowds together. The coast stays comfortable in the breeze; anything inland is best done before midday.
- September and October. The sea is warmer now than it was all summer, the light stretches out late, and the crowds start to thin. The months people come back for.
- November and December: mild, easy-going and quiet, with the occasional shower. The exception is the Christmas and New Year fortnight, when everything briefly fills up again.
Peak, shoulder and low season: what each one costs you
Peak means July and August, plus Easter and the fortnight around Christmas and New Year. You get the warmest water, a promenade that stays busy until late, and restaurants full enough to feel like an occasion. And you pay for it in hotel rates, in beach space, and in lead time, because transfers and excursions are routinely gone several days ahead. Nothing about peak season is worse. It simply asks you to decide earlier.
Shoulder season is the quiet case for April to June and September to October: the sunshine barely changes, the prices soften, and you see things at your own speed. Then there is low season, from late November through February, which regular visitors tend to guard rather than advertise. Calm, inexpensive, still bright enough to lie on the sand at noon, with a light layer wanted by the time you sit down to dinner.
Surf season in Taghazout runs the other way
Surfers read this calendar upside down. Taghazout sits about 25 minutes north along the coast, and its best months run from roughly October to April, when the Atlantic sends in the most consistent swell and the right-hand points that made the village famous start working properly. Conveniently, that is exactly when Agadir is mild and dry: a session at dawn, then an afternoon that still feels like holiday weather.
Come between June and August and you get the opposite: smaller, softer surf and warmer water, which is far better if you are learning or riding a longboard. Either way the village works as a half day or a full day out of Agadir, and a private transfer at a fixed price means your boards and bags travel with you and there is no fare to argue over at the roadside.
How far ahead should you book a transfer?
Match your lead time to the season. If you are landing in July or August, over Easter, or in the Christmas and New Year window, treat the transfer as part of booking the flight. The workable slots go early, and there is no dependable app pickup at Agadir Al Massira to rescue an unplanned arrival at one in the morning.
Outside those weeks a day or two is usually enough, and it still buys you the things that matter: the right size of vehicle, a name board at arrivals if you want one, and a driver following your flight number, so he is there when the plane actually lands and waits while you clear passport control and collect your bags (free waiting for a reasonable delay). Atlas Luxury Transfers is a local Agadir company, registered and trading as COMPANY TRENTIEME, with ten years on these roads and drivers who work in French, English and Arabic. The price is fixed per vehicle and confirmed before you travel, then paid in cash to your driver on the day, in euros or dirham. No deposit, nothing to settle online. A WhatsApp message or the booking form is the quickest way to check a date and hold it.
Which season fits which traveller
If school holidays set your dates, you are looking at July, August or Easter, so reserve early and let the coast do the cooling for you. If you came to look at things rather than lie on them, spring and autumn are far kinder to a full day out. If you surf, or you simply want a wide empty beach and a bill to match, take the cooler half of the year. The useful part is that none of these is a gamble on the weather; only on how many people are standing next to you.
The year at a glance
Four seasons, four fairly different holidays. Here is what each window gives you, and who tends to choose it.
- Winter (Dec–Feb). Mild winter sun, roughly 20–21°C by day and cool in the evening, with the occasional brief shower. The quietest and best-value stretch of the year, apart from a short Christmas and New Year spike. Suits: winter sun, surfing Taghazout, slow low-cost stays.
- Spring (Mar–May): green, fresh and steadily warming into the low-to-mid 20s°C, drying out as it goes. Moderate crowds, fair prices. Suits: sightseeing, Paradise Valley and Taroudant day trips, all-round comfort.
- Summer (Jun–Aug). The hottest and busiest months; the sea breeze keeps the coast pleasant while inland turns fierce around midday. Highest prices and fullest beaches, so reserve transfers and excursions well ahead. Suits: families, school holidays, beach days, atmosphere.
- Autumn (Sep–Oct): the warmest sea of the year, long golden evenings, crowds and prices both easing off. The season repeat visitors book. Suits: swimming, couples and sightseers, unhurried excursions.
Next steps: Reserve a fixed-price private airport transfer, look through the full-day excursions and book a private chauffeur for the day in Agadir.
